That and trust.

If you’re aiming to resonate with your audience and craft a deep, meaningful connection (so they’ll eventually part with their pennies), you can’t afford to misstep these two values.

Queen Lilibet is probs looking at this PR carnage from beyond like, “I’ve barely been gone 10 minutes; don’t make me get the corgis on you!”.

But in all seriousness, the royal family has a duty to their audience—us, the (sometimes not so Great) British people, and their global audience of fans.

  • Don’t Lie—This goes for all areas of life, especially your brand. Lies are the number one way to lose trust instantly. Trust takes years to build and seconds to shatter.

  • Get a Second Opinion Before Posting - Not sure if your latest content will land right with your audience? Ask someone to proof it. Get a second, third, or fourth opinion. Social media posts have a 24-hour shelf life average, but social discourses? They can span decades.

  • People Respect Honesty - Got something wrong? Bad review? Potential clients and customers would rather see all sides of your brand. A bad review, among several good ones, can boost trust because it’s more realistic. No one is perfect 100% of the time. Be sure to respond constructively to bad press, get your facts right, hold your hands up when wrong, and face every pitfall with a solution mindset.

  • Hire Experts—Amateur Photoshop fails aside; there’s a reason people hire pro freelancers and agencies to help with their brands. As a business owner, you have enough hats to wear without trying to upkeep your brand image online. Also, be aware: Pay cheap, pay twice. The same goes for not hiring the pros to begin with!

You must humanize your brand to turn visitors and scrollers into die-hard fans.
